The presentation focuses on computer-assisted learning of Estonian. It provides an insight into the learning process through the adoption of the online applications and interactive media solutions into a traditional university courses. Impulses for this presentation came from developing on-line learning materials intended for self-learners added to the web-page «Eesti keele ja kultuuri kursused» http://www.ut.ee/keeleweb2/ and later integrated into Estonian courses of Tartu University. These materials and courses are intended for adult learners and develop active skills in Estonian.
It discusses experiences that are relevant from the teacher perspective, and the experiences described in the students feedback. This presentation shortly discusses the special linguistic characteristics of Estonian that make their learning and teaching via Internet difficult and which therefore need more attention. Our aim was to determine the strengths and weaknesses of existing internet-based Estonian language courses and to highlight the factors that learning software developers and teachers should consider when preparing web-based study materials of the Estonian language.
